Corporate sector has offered employment opportunities to Agniveers after retirement

Even as protests have broken out across the country against the Governments Agnipath scheme, which aims to hire young soldiers to be called Agniveers, on a short term basis in all three defence forces, corporates have come forward to offer employment to these recruits once they are relieved from their respective forces.

Let us read on to know what has been the development on this front so far in 10 points.

  1. Joining the chorus of other India Inc leaders who have offered to employ Agniveers, Welspun Chairman B K Goenka on Tuesday said that his company will find suitable openings for the recruits.

  2. “Agnipath scheme is a golden opportunity for the industry to engage highly skilled, disciplined, and talented personnel in their organisations,” he said in a statement.

  3. With minor orientation on industrial machinery, Mr Goenka said, “They will be able to deliver quality output. The Agniveers will find suitable openings at different levels in Welspun.”

  4. Earlier on Monday, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra had said that his group will also recruit “capable young people” trained under Agnipath scheme.

  5. “Saddened by the violence around the Agnipath programme. When the scheme was mooted last year I stated – and I repeat – the discipline and skills Agniveers gain will make them eminently employable. The Mahindra Group welcomes the opportunity to recruit such trained, capable young people,” Anand Mahindra had tweeted on Monday.

  6. Soon after Mr Mahindra’s comments, RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka also offered support for Agniveers. “The RPG group too welcomes the opportunity to employ the Agniveers. I do hope other corporates will also join us to take this pledge and assure our youths of a future,” he tweeted.

  7. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of the salt-to-software Tata group called the scheme a great opportunity for the youth to serve the nation. He added Agnipath would help the industry including the Tata group get a pool of disciplined and trained youth.

  8. “We recognise the potential of the Agniveers and welcome the opportunity this represents,” he said in a statement.

  9. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, founder Chairperson of pharma major Biocon, said Agniveers will have a distinct advantage in recruitment in the industrial job market.

  10. “The Agnipath scheme will have a significant positive impact on society, and contribute greatly to nation building. Agniveers will play a key role in furthering economic growth and strengthening society in the coming years,” said Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director of TVS Motor Company.
