JSW Energy (Utkal) Limited has synchronised the second 350 MW unit of its thermal power plant in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, completing the revival of the entire 700 MW facility acquired through NCLT proceedings in December 2022. The synchronisation, announced on January 15, 2025, marks the completion of the plant’s restoration in approximately 24 months.

The shares of JSW Energy (Utkal) Limited closed at ₹562.80, up by ₹14.95 or 2.73 per cent on the NSE today.

The newly synchronised unit, which operates on domestic coal, is currently not tied to any long-term power purchase agreement. With this addition, JSW Energy’s operational thermal capacity has increased to 3,858 MW, while its total locked-in thermal capacity stands at 7,458 MW.

This development is part of JSW Energy’s broader expansion strategy, with the company’s total locked-in generation capacity now reaching 28.2 GW across various power sources including thermal, wind, hydel, and solar. The company is currently constructing additional power projects totaling 8.3 GW as it works toward achieving its target of 20 GW capacity before 2030.

JSW Energy, a subsidiary of the USD 24 billion JSW Group, has grown significantly since its first thermal power plants were commissioned in 2000. The company has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 while supporting India’s growing base load power demands.
