NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has begun commercial operations of its first 660 MW unit at the Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant (GTPP) in Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in the company’s power generation portfolio. The plant commenced commercial operations at midnight on December 12, 2024, following successful trial runs completed on December 7.
The shares of NLC India Limited (NLCIL) were trading at ₹260.40 down by ₹3.30 or 1.25 per cent on the NSE today at 12.15 pm.
This project, developed through Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), is a joint venture with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL). It represents the first fossil fuel-based thermal power plant commissioned in India during the current financial year, increasing NLCIL’s total installed power generation capacity from 6,071 MW to 6,731 MW.
The Ghatampur plant utilizes supercritical technology, which offers higher efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, and lower emissions compared to conventional power plants. Designed to meet power demands in Uttar Pradesh and Assam, the facility features advanced environmental management systems, including high-efficiency electrostatic precipitator and flue-gas desulfurisation units.
NLCIL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, highlighted the project’s significance in supporting India’s energy needs while embracing energy-efficient technologies, aligning with the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in the energy sector.
